  • Gibbs built horse drawn marker

John’s grandson, Herbert John Gibbs, continued the family tradition, designing many items including the horse-drawn marker seen here. This horse-drawn marker was used to mark out the fields so that the seed could be planted quickly and evenly.

The firm extended its range to the manufacture of specialist tools such as fruit picking ladders. A special shed was erected with north facing roof lights to gain the best light. The ground floor housed a complete machine shop with a gas engine, pulleys and line-shafting to operate the various woodworking machines. The whole length of the upper floor was used for the manufacture of the long fruit ladders.
