Welcome to the website of J. Gibbs, a business established in Bedfont, Middlesex which traded under 5 generations of the same family from 1844 until 1997. It is the story of how the family built up and maintained a thriving business of agricultural engineers during 150 years of extensive change and technological development. Over this time the Gibbs family collected a large number of photographs, leaflets and manuals relating to the business and to the products they stocked and distributed as well as those the company designed and built.
Donald Gibbs collated a history of the business, The Gibbs Collection, which is displayed at the Rural Life Centre, Tilford, Surrey alongside agricultural implements and other items relating to the business. The first 17 albums on this site reproduce this display and focus on the rural and agricultural side of the business. There is also a video which was taken by cine film in the 1960's and is a motion image history of the business during that decade. The plan is for further albums to be published on this website which will include other areas of the businsess such as the motor division and the commercial vehicle division.
